How is a Breast Lift Performed?
For patients who want higher and firmer breasts, a breast lift can change the shape from a teardrop to a cone, reposition the nipple to a higher level and reduce the areola to a more pleasing size, if desired. A mastopexy can also be used in tandem with breast implants to boost volume and fullness.
There are three common breast lift incisions used by our surgical staff in Mineola and West Islip. They are:
- Around the areola
- Around the areola and vertically down from the areola to the breast crease
- Around the areola, vertically down from the breast crease and then horizontally along the breast increase
The incision pattern will depend on your breast size and shape, the size and position of your areolas, the degree of breast sagging and your skin quality and elasticity. Once the incisions are made, the underlying breast tissue is lifted and reshaped to improve contour and firmness. If you have lost volume and desire more fullness, breast implants can be placed during surgery. The nipple and areola are repositioned to a natural, more youthful height, and excess skin is removed. The remaining skin will then be tightened and sutured closed.
