  • Benefits of Going Makeup Free!

For many women, makeup is a daily routine. The idea of being seen outside without it is actually a bit frightening, but going makeup free has so many benefits that it may shock you how confident you’ll feel! Here are five reasons to give it a try :

Save money. Think about how much money you spend on new makeup products that you rarely even use. What happens to them? These products go dry and get thrown away. Instead, stick to buying a few essentials for your beauty bag – go makeup free the rest of the time.

Take a vacation. From makeup, we mean! One of the best reasons to go makeup free is that it gives your skin a mini holiday away from exposure to products. Let your skin breathe free, and it will thank you. Just don’t forget a little sunscreen before spending time outside!

Show off your natural beauty. We know it sounds a little cliche, but it’s important to let your natural beauty shine. Wearing makeup is a social norm for women, so it’s only natural to believe you’re less attractive without it. But what if you’re hiding your best face that way? Confidence and a smile will often make you more beautiful than your makeup can.

Free up time. How much time do you spend perfecting your makeup in the morning? Then add the time you spend touching up throughout the day. And at the end of the day, you need to remove it before washing up and going to bed (if you don’t, you should!). Take a week, a month, or even just a day and you’ll see how liberating going makeup-free can be.

Send a positive message. Are you a mom or mommy-to-be? Just think about the message wearing these products sends to your daughter. If she asks to try on your lipstick, it means she’s paying attention. She wants to look just as beautiful as you. Children subconsciously absorb messages from their parents, so make sure the message is a positive one!

  • How to Protect Your Skin From the Sun

Memorial Day Weekend is upon us! Whether you plan to hit the beach or spend an afternoon at an outdoor barbeque, make sure you keep your skin safe! With summer approaching, you can expect a lot of sun over the next few days.

So how can you protect your skin? Here’s three key tips to follow:

    Know when to protect
Did you know that you can get burnt even when the clouds roll in? That’s right! The highest risk hours are from 10AM to 3PM whether the sun is shining or not. Getting a sunburn is easy because UV rays can still penetrate, so knowing these peak times are essential to preventing skin damage.

    Apply Sunscreen
This seems obvious, but what you may not know is that sunscreens are not all made equally. Choosing the right sunscreen for your skin is important. Also, know which areas of your skin are most sensitive, such as your ears and lips. Make sure you use a minimum of SPF 15, but 30 or greater is highly recommended. It should also be water resistant so you don’t have to worry about it coming off after a swim. Think one application is enough? Truth is that burns can happen if you don’t reapply at least every 90 minutes, so keep the sunscreen handy all day long!

    Cover up.
Wearing the right clothing is another great way to protect yourself from strong UV rays. The trend for Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) clothing is growing. This includes swimsuits, pants, shorts, hats, and even gloves. If you don’t own UPF clothing just yet, go through your closet and find either of the following: dark colors, long-sleeved shirts and pants, and hats with at least a two inch brim all around.
