Liposuction On Long Island

Body Contouring at its Best

Unwanted fat deposits resulting from pregnancy, stress, genetics, or a slowing metabolism can be extremely resistant to diet and exercise. No matter how many miles you run or calories you count, these stubborn fat deposits simply won’t budge. If this sounds familiar to you, then the professional team at Island Plastic Surgery is happy to help! Our effective liposuction procedures can minimize pockets of fat and shape the contours of your body with minimal discomfort. With over 30 years of experience and a commitment to excellent patient care, you can trust Island Plastic Surgery to provide you with the best possible results.

What is Liposuction?

Liposuction (lipoplasty) is a surgical procedure that eliminates excess fat from under the skin. Where diet and exercise can only shrink fat cells, liposuction actually removes them. During a liposuction procedure, a plastic surgeon inserts a small, hollow tube into the area of concern, targeting unwanted fat between the skin and muscle tissue. Excess fat cells are then suctioned out, leaving behind a slimmer, more contoured shape. As one of the most popular cosmetic procedures among men and women for contouring the body, liposuction can produce immediate results that will remain permanent as long as you maintain a healthy lifestyle.

What Areas of the Body Can Liposuction Treat?

Liposuction is effective on many areas of the body, including:

  • Cheeks, chin, and neck
  • Upper arms
  • Chest area
  • Abdomen and waist
  • Back
  • Hips and buttocks
  • Thighs
  • Inner knee
  • Calves and ankles

Benefits of Liposuction

One of the biggest advantages to having a liposuction procedure is that one treatment may be all that’s necessary to reshape your problem areas. Island Plastic Surgery offers safe and effective liposuction that can be performed on several areas at one time or in conjunction with other cosmetic procedures. A local or general anesthesia will be used to minimize discomfort, and the results are more consistent and predictable than noninvasive treatments.

What to Expect

Most liposuction procedures take 1-3 hours, depending on the size of the treatment area. Pain is usually mild to moderate. You will need to wear a compression garment for 2 to 4 weeks after surgery to help support and “shrink” the skin and to ensure proper healing. Swelling is common during the first 48 hours following surgery, and bruising typically disappears within several weeks. You may experience slight discomfort for a few days after surgery, but you should be able to return to your normal activities within a few days.

Some Things to Consider

Liposuction is neither a treatment for obesity or cellulite nor a substitute for proper diet and exercise. If you have a notable weight issue, you will need to address that first before considering the procedure.

Ideal liposuction candidates are:

  • Adults within a normal weight range (30% of their ideal weight)
  • Adults with firm, elastic skin and good muscle tone
  • Nonsmokers
  • Healthy individuals who do not have a life-threatening illness or medical condition that could impair healing
  • Adults with realistic expectations, specific body-contouring goals, and a positive outlook
